Introduction to Click Chemistry– A Brief Description

As we are familiar that Click Chemistry has not only opened new doors to discoveries in chemistry but also modernized it. It plays a vital role in the pharmaceutical industry. It has introduced such reactions which give us products avoided by unnecessary by-products. The introduction to Click Chemistry was firstly given by K.B Sharpless in 2001. This was a beneficial step in the field of Chemistry.

Introduction to Click Chemistry is basically, meant for introducing such reactions that give the products which easily can be removed without chromatography and that are easy to handle. Such reactions are high yielding. If you want to avail yourself of more information about Click Chemistry then read this article completely. That article contains a valuable introduction to Click Chemistry.

Click Chemistry can be defined as a branch of chemistry that describes the Click Reactions, which are high yielding, broad in scope, give only products which can be removed without chromatography, are easy to handle, are stereoscopic, and can be conducted in removable solvents.

Characteristics of Click Reactions

To be a Click reaction, the reaction must fulfill the following characteristics;

  • Modularity.
  • Insensitivity to the solvent.
  • Must give a high yield of products.
  • Insensitivity to water and oxygen.
  • Must have stereospecificity and regiospecificity.
  • Required a large thermodynamic force to move the reaction with a single product.
  • It is an exothermic “spring-loaded” reaction.

Types of the Click Reactions

Mainly click reactions are of four types which are described below.

  1. Cycloaddition reactions– which mostly refer to 1, 3-dipolar cycloaddition but also hetero–Diels Elder reactions cycloadditions. (2)
  2. Nucleophilic ring openings–these are directed to openings of strained heterocyclic electrophiles such as aziridine, epoxides, cyclic–sulfate, aziriduenium ions, and sulphonium ion, etc.
  3. Carbonyl Chemistry of non–aldol type; including the formation of urea, thiourea, oxime ethers, amides, etc.
  4. Addition to Carbon-Carbon multiple bonds; including epoxidation, dihydroxylation,  sulphonyl halide addition, nitro halide addition, certain Michael additions, and aziridination.

Cycloaddition Click Reactions

Among all the four major kinds of Click Reaction Cycloaddition, Particularly Copper Catalysed 1, 3 dipolar cycloadditions of azides ( HDC) and terminal alkynes to form 1, 2, 3-triazole is the most widely used.  Depending on the writings inquiries noted before, almost 100% of the writings directed that Click Reaction has base applications in study regions.

Why is it called Click Chemistry?

Click Chemistry was discovered by Huisgen in the 1950s, But He was the Sharpless who used the first time “Term Click Chemistry” for the most efficient and highly synthetic reactions. These reactions are carried by many functional groups. Such reactions occurred under mild and synthetic conditions.

Green Aspects of Click Reactions

According to” Sir John Cornforth” who got the Nobel prize in literature in Chemistry in 1975. He said,” ideal chemical process is that which can a one-armed–operator. That can be performed by pouring the reactants into a bathtub. Then collecting products from the drain hole.

Click Reactions can be organized in such a way that it comprised all 12 principles of Green Chemistry. Click Chem involves synthetic methods that are designed to maximize the inclusion of all resources that are used in the process into the final products. These products are established with maximum usefulness( efficacy) and minimum cytotoxicity. In short, Click Chemistry has a basic role in Green Chemistry products.

Conclusion

Click Reactions are the most important processes in the field of Chemistry. These reactions are playing a vital role in the organism’s life. We can not be denied their importance in the Pharmaceutical industry. These reactions are also important due to the avoidance of unnecessary by-products. These reactions are very fast and have a high yield hence these are also time-saving.

  1. Hi there would you mind letting me know which webhost you’re working with? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different internet browsers and I must say this blog loads a lot quicker then most. Can you suggest a good web hosting provider at a reasonable price? Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!

  2. Appreciating the dedication you put into your website and in depth information you present. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same outdated rehashed material. Wonderful read! I’ve saved your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.
